Mr. Larry Joel Whittington, 72, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, July 6, 2020. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 10th, in Centenary Cemetery with Rev. Joe Leverette officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Mr. Whittington proudly served his country with the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict from 1966 – 1974. He was loved by many, but there was no greater love than the one he shared with his wife, Charlotte. The hallmark of their 46-year marriage was their unwavering commitment to each other, as one was never without the other. You could often find him cutting up with his sisters, Teresa and Sheila, who held a special place in his heart. He was a craftsman of many trades, but his greatest gift was his fun-loving heart that he shared with his nieces and nephews who he considered his own children.

Mr. Whittington was preceded in death by his parents, Richard & Ruthie Whittington; parents-in-law, Charles & Janette Cauthen; two brothers-in-law, Alvin & Ronald Cauthen; two nephews, Anthony & Michael Cauthen; and a great-nephew, Parker Barr.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 46 years, Charlotte J. Whittington; six siblings, Tony (Julia) Stroud, Lynn Williams, Sherian (Vincent) Spera, Sheila Barr, Wanda (Dan) Hudson, and Teresa (James) McGough; eight nieces and nephews, Shannon (Steve) Breen, Jennifer (Anthony) Garrity, Adam (Leigh) Barr, Erin (Chelsea) Barr, David Hudson, Brittney (Justin) Bragg, Kayla (Andrew) Clay, and Jade (Ben) Salter; and fifteen great-nieces & nephews, John, Morgan, Madison, AJ, Troy, Raegan, Treston, Anna Cate, Zachary, Isabelle, Carter, Nolan, Lakelyn, Hudson, and Emersyn.

Active pallbearers will be Terry Cauthen, Jimmy McGough, Justin Bragg, Adam Barr, Andrew Clay, and Tony Stroud.
