A memorial service was held at 4 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2020, at Johnson Funeral Home in Georgiana for Mrs. Deana Vickery Roper, 48, of McKenzie, who died Friday, May 29, at her home. Bro. Steve Foster and Lester Odom Jr. officiated.

Deana was born Feb. 6, 1972, in Greenville, to Bo and Janice Vickery. She was the 1990 valedictorian of McKenzie School. She graduated from Troy University with a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in elementary education and later graduated from Alabama State University with a master’s degree in library science.

Deana married Casey Roper on July 12, 1997, in Sevierville, Tenn. She was employed by the Butler County School System in 1997 and was a teacher at Greenville Middle School and retired from Georgiana School in 2018 as the school librarian.

Deana truly lived life to the fullest and was loved by all. She enjoyed fishing, especially deep sea fishing. She liked to cook and spend time with her family. She loved to travel and go to the beach. She loved to simply sit in her rocking chair by the pool. She was a loving wife, mother and daughter.

Survivors include her husband of 22 years, Casey Roper; son, Austin Roper; daughter, Jamie Leigh; parents, Bo and Janice Vickery; brother, Chad Vickery; niece, Shelby Vickery and nephew, Logan Vickery.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Comfort Care Hospice of Brewton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Montgomery Cancer Foundation.
