Following the lead of Alabama public schools, Fort Dale Academy announced just after 2 p.m. today, Saturday, March 14, that it would also suspend classes for two and a half weeks when the school day ends this Wednesday.

“In response to Gov. Kay Ivey’s recent announcement of a State of Emergency and mandated public school closings, and in the best interest of our students, faculty and staff, Fort Dale Academy will be closed Thursday, March 19, through Sunday, April 5,” FDA Headmaster Kurt Page said. “There will be no classes, extracurricular activities or events during this time.”

The decision was made in response to the coronavirus pandemic and the fear of spreading it.

“School will be open as usual during the first part of next week, March 16-18,” Page added. “SAT 10 testing for grades 3-7 has been postponed.”

Classes at the Butler County private school are planned to resume on Monday, April 6.

“We encourage you to follow the COVID-19 preventive measures as outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,” Page concluded. “We wish everyone a safe Spring Break and hope you will join us in praying for our country, state, the medical community and families that may be affected by COVID-19.”
