Three people who fled a traffic stop near Georgiana last weekend were jailed on a variety of charges.
Butler County Sheriff Danny Bond said an Alabama Law Enforcement Agency State Trooper attempted to pull a vehicle over on AL-106 Saturday afternoon. As he exited the car to check the subjects, they fled in their vehicle. Bond said the car had three people in it.
“They took off and there was a chase,” Bond said. “We had a deputy in the area and he went to assist. The subjects bailed from the car on 106, east of Georgiana. They got two of them pretty quickly.”
Bond said a call was made to Covington County for its K9 tracking team.
“About 15 minutes after they arrived, the third person was located and they got that one in custody,” Bond said. “We assisted the State Troopers as did the deputies from Covington County. We appreciate them.”
Covington County Sheriff Blake Turman said the K9 team “really outdid themselves.”
“A fleeing drug dealer was caught off State Road 106 in Butler County and I’m glad they were able to assist,” he said. “Shout out to all the officers involved. It was hot and muggy, and there are a lot of snakes out there. Well, we caught one snake that will see the business end of a judge’s gavel. Good job guys, your community and your sheriff appreciate you.”
Bond said the subjects tossed guns and drugs out of the vehicle as it fled the Trooper.
“The guns were recovered,” he said. “As far as I know, they got all the dope.”
Bond said two of the suspects had felony warrants on them out of another county. He said it was a good job with the agencies coordinating with each other.
“We appreciate them (K9 team) coming up and helping with this,” Bond concluded. “It went well and no one was injured.”
