A situation that began with the routine serving of a warrant escalated into a standoff this afternoon at the Old Acres Trailer Park on Hwy. 10 between Rutledge and Luverne.
The Butler County Sheriff’s Office was serving the warrant with assistance from the Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Office when the suspect barricaded himself in his trailer, allegedly with a weapon in his possession.
Response and assistance quickly came from the Greenville Police Department’s Special Response Team (SRT) and the Luverne Police Department.
Agents on the ground were in communication with the suspect but were unable to resolve the situation in that manner.
After an hours-long stand-off, however, officers were able to enter the residence and extract and arrest the suspect.
He was then taken into custody of Butler County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect’s name- Craig McCaffee, has now been released, and he has been charged with receiving stolen property, third degree, resisting arrest and interference with governmental operations.
