Sunday School on the Playground set for March 24

One local church is taking the concept of an outreach ministry more literally than most.
Train Up a Child, a ministry of The Church of the Last Days, where Bishop John Simpson Jr. serves as pastor, is planning a series called Sunday School on the Playground.
Sunday School on the Playground, as the name would suggest, aims to take its message directly to its audience–on the playground.
Evangelist Cynthia Herbert said that the inspiration behind the ministry stemmed from a desire to take their message directly to Greenville’s youth, in their element and on their terms.
“The playground is one of the places where children feel comfortable, and you can talk to them in an environment where it’ll be fun,” Herbert said.
In contrast to the setting, Sunday School on the Playground aims to tackle a number of complex issues–such as bullying and the importance of obedience–that school-aged children face each day.
“I’m looking at the conditions and the things that are happening in the schools, and God just gave me a vision [for this ministry,] Herbert said.
“I wanted to make a difference–that’s always–in our community.
The ministry will begin on March 24 at 9 p.m. from Northridge Apartments, located at 601 Beeland Street.
There will also be refreshments and games for the youth in attendance.
Though a percentage of the targeted demographic is younger students, Herbert aims to attract teenagers, as well.
Herbert also asks that all children in attendance be accompanied by a chaperone who is 18 years of age or older.
Sunday School on the Playground aims to continue its series of messages at two other housing complexes in Greenville, though a time and place remain undetermined at this time.
