Andre Lavaughn Cameron, a registered sex offender who fled Lowndes County, is in custody according to Investigator Jeremy A. Marvin with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.
Marvin, sex offender unit coordinator for the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, said a tip from CrimeStoppers on Nov. 9 led to the subsequent arrest of Cameron in Greenville on North Conecuh Street, just down from the Butler County Courthouse.
“The offender fled on foot in an attempt to elude law enforcement, but was apprehended shortly after,” Marvin said.
He said Cameron was transported to the Lowndes County Jail “where he is being held for the felony charges with our agency, as well as felony and misdemeanor warrants with Montgomery City and the State Pardons and Paroles Board.”
Marvin said on Wednesday, Nov. 8 that Cameron had absconded from the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office and was on the run somewhere in the Montgomery area.
Cameron had felony warrants for his arrest with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, as well as misdemeanor and felony warrants with Montgomery.
Marvin added that Cameron was released from prison earlier this year on felony rape charges.
Marvin said at the time it was unknown if Cameron was armed but that he was considered dangerous.
