Lady Eagles fall to Macon East in championship round of tourney

Macon East Montgomery downed the Fort Dale Lady Eagles 15-0 in softball for those two team to win the championships and Northside blanked a valiant Lowndes Academy Rebels baseball team 11-0 and in the Lowndes Academy Baseball/Softball Tournament played Thursday through Saturday at Lowndes Academy.
The tournament began last Thursday night with the Lowndes Academy girls going 2-0 and the Lowndes Academy boys going 1-1.
The Lowndes Academy Lady Rebels defeated Evangel 10-9 and edged Fort Dale 6-4.
In baseball, the Rebels held off Coosa Valley 8-6, but lost to Fort Dale 7-2.
In softball, in the Evangel game, the Lady Rebels led 10-2 going into the fifth inning before committing four errors over the last two innings, but held on for the win.
In the night cap, trailing 4-1 in the sixth inning, the Lady Rebels plated five runs capped off by a two RBI single from Avery Morgan that gave the Lady Rebels their final margin.
Lady Rebels head softball coach Matt Marshall said of his team, “We graduated six starters last year and are definitely rebuilding this year. “
He said, “We are relying on two seniors and returning starters Emily Smith and Sasha Jaworski for leadership and guidance. “
He said, “I was super proud of our team in the Fort Dale tournament (played earlier this season). We struggled in some areas, but overachieved in others. The year is going to be a constant process to improve and get better and we are looking forward to that. The girls have a lot of fight and tenacity in them and for that I am grateful.”
The Lowndes Academy Rebels won four games Saturday before being ousted by Northside Methodist. But the Lady Rebels were knocked out by Fort Dale in their only appearance on Saturday.
Three Lowndes Academy Rebel pitchers combined to defeat Coosa Valley Academy 13-1 in the 10 a.m. game of the Lowndes Academy Baseball/Softball Tournament Saturday.
The Rebels won a second game back to back when Ryan Davis pitched a 6-0 shutout of Macon-East Montgomery.
After a brief rest, the Rebels defeated Fort Dale 2-1. And followed that up with a 3-2 win over Northside Methodist Academy.
But the Rebels finally suffered the taste of defeat Saturday falling to Northside Methodist 11-0 in a 9:15 p.m. ballgame for the baseball championship.
In a game that began around 4 p.m. Saturday, the Lady Eagles of Fort Dale Academy jumped on the Lady Rebels early and never looked back defeating the Lady Rebels 13-2.
But the Lady Eagles of Fort Dale found themselves on the losing side of 15-0 loss to Macon East Montgomery for the softball championship.
