After a season of successes, the Brantley High School Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs finally reached the Area Tournament this week. The tournament was hosted by the Georgiana Panthers at Georgiana School.
“We did a lot of good things against Highland Home. We didn’t shoot the ball well early, but our threshold defense got some turnovers,” said BHS Girls Varsity Coach Roland Jones.
In the first round of the tourney, held Tuesday night at Georgiana School, the Lady Bulldogs came face to face with their county rivals, the Highland Home School Lady Squadron.
The Lady Bulldogs came home victorious at 50-23, and will head into their second round of area play tonight at 5 p.m. against Georgiana in Georgiana.
Leading the Lady Bulldogs with 16 points was Kassidy Wilcox, followed closely by Aliyah Person and Olivia Jones with 12 points.
The Lady Bulldogs have also qualified for subregionals after boasting a regular season record of 22-5 and an area record of 8-1.
The subregional game will take place next Monday night. If the Lady Bulldogs are victorious against the Georgiana Panthers, they will host the subregional tournament; if they lose, they will then travel for the next round.
“We’ve just got to get back to the basics. When we beat them here, we played a really good defense. When we went down there, we missed a lot of easy shots,” coach Jones said.
“We’ve just got to work hard this week and focus and we’ve got to be able to make shots.”
The Brantley Bulldogs currently boast a season record of 16-10.
The Bulldogs took home a 64-48 victory against Red Level in the first round of the tournament, and will play for the area championship tonight in Georgiana.
Leading the way for the Bulldogs against Red Level was Adrian Person, Jr. with 22 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Following behind was Parker Driggers with 14 points and four steals, D’Andre Sinclair with 13 points and 14 rebounds and Mick Beverly with 12 points.
