Douglas B. Free

Douglas B. Free, 72, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away on Monday, Nov. 28.  A memorial service will be held for him at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, from the Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with Rev. Travis Johnson officiating. Mr. Free was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Peyton Elizabeth Cox, and his parents, Roy B. Free and Willie Bell Mills.  He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nan G. Free; daughter, Sandra (Paul) Cox; granddaughter, Sydney Olivia Cox; and aunt, Ella Kate Moses. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 – 11 a.m.

Leon Chesser, 76, a resident of Prattville, Alabama, and formerly of Highland Home, Alabama, passed away on Friday, Nov. 25.  Funeral services for Mr. Chesser were held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 27, in Magnolia Baptist Church in Lapine, Alabama, with Rev. Charles Francisco officiating. Interment followed in Magnolia Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing.  Mr. Chesser was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Thomas Chesser, and two sons, Michael Chesser and Thomas Chesser.  He is survived by two children, Tammy (Daniel) Brown and Tim (Joanna) Chesser; three granddaughters, Megan, Maddie and Marlee; three brothers, Lonnie Chesser, Alvin Chesser and Billy Chesser; and two sisters, Margie (Bubba) Sexton and Minnie Royal.

Gury Mae Cauthen McCullough

Gury Mae Cauthen McCullough, 95, a resident of Highland Home, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 24.  Funeral services for Mrs. McCullough were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26, from the Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with Brother Jack Zimmer officiating.  Interment followed in Cauthen Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing.  Mrs. McCullough was preceded in death by her husbands, Glady McColy Cauthen and Cecil McCullough; grandson, Tracy Dale McCullough; parents, Oren “Iron” and Winnie Mae Pouncey Sexton; five brothers; and one sister.  She is survived by four children, Ernest Herman “Pete” Cauthen, Stella Cauthen, Dale (Elizabeth) McCullough and Ray (Paula) McCullough; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; sister, Jewel Cauthen; and Perry (Joyce Caroline) Sexton.  Active pallbearers were Eddie Reese, Steven Williams, Kevin Braswell, Derek McCullough, Chad McCullough and Shannon McKenzie.

Margaret Elizabeth Luckie Bentley

Margaret Elizabeth Luckie Bentley, 88, a resident of Greenville, Alabama, died on Monday, Nov.  21. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 25 at Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. Don Yancey officiating and Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family received friends on Friday, Nov. 25, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Liberty Baptist Church. Mrs. Bentley is survived by her husband, James Lewis Bentley; daughters, Rene Alice Inmon of Greenville, Alabama, Rhonda Arlene Stevens (Richard) of Greenville, Alabama; sons, Robert Allen Bentley (Robin) of Jacksonville, Florida, Raymond Arthur Bentley of Holly, Michigan; grandchildren, Curtis McDaniel (Lisa), Windee Turner (Cecil), Scott Bentley, Erin Pilant (Aaron), Ryan Bentley (Crystal), Sara Bentley, Elizabeth Norman (Paul), Elizabeth Norman (Paul) and Andrew Stevens; 10 great grandchildren; sisters, Mary Annette Luckie of Greenville, Alabama, Dorothy Atkins of Milton, Florida; brother, Sheldon Luckie (Nancy) of Greenville, Alabama; a niece and three nephews that were under her care growing up, Brenda Stallings, Mike Luckie, Chris Luckie and Donald Luckie; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
