Brazilla Byerley Surratt Jr., known to most as Mr. B.B., 92, a resident of Greenville, Ala., went to be with the Lord at his home Sept. 26, 2016. Mr. Surratt was born July 21, 1924 in the state of West Virginia where he grew up with his parents and three sisters. He later married Elizabeth “Pat” Pruitt Surratt, who went to be with the Lord in 2007. Mr. Surratt was a husband, father of three, businessman and civic leader. Many will remember Mr. B.B. from the years he spent in business at the Farm Supply store once located in downtown Greenville, from the time he served as a sales associate for Hainjes Furniture, or even his days on the local sheriff’s posse. Anyone who knew Mr. B.B. would remember his generous spirit and unique sense of humor. He enjoyed telling stories and sing silly songs to his grandchildren. He loved his family and maintained a positive outlook on life even through challenging physical trials. Mr. Surratt is survived by his three children: Lanelle “Toni” Hendrick of Greenville, Ala., David Surratt of Dallas, Texas, and Pippa Hammond of Bluefield, West Virginia; seven grandchildren, Heath Hendrick, Christa Hendrick McGriff, Alicia Surratt, Meagan Carr, Joshua Hendrick, Kyle Hammond and Jordan Dillon; nine great grandchildren, William Luke Hendrick, Sydney McGriff, Grant McGriff, Braden Carr, Cade Carr, Tucker Carr, Lila Grace Hendrick, Tinley Dillon and Jack Carr; one sibling, Mildred Ritchey of Roanoke, Va.; and many beloved nephews, nieces, and extended family members who all had a special place in his heart.
Mr. Surratt is being honored at a private family memorial. The family would like to express their appreciation to AlaCare Home Health and Hospice and to the sitters and caregivers for their love and kindness during his illness.
