Last weekend, the City of Luverne experienced a string of robberies.
Crenshaw Christian Academy not only had ground maintenance tools pilfered, but also lost funds which were stored in a safe within the main school building.
“There were three weed eaters and a leaf blower taken between Wednesday and Friday of last week,” said Luverne Police Department Investigator Mason Adcock.
“We had serial numbers on those items and they have been entered, so we may possibly get a hit on that.”
Adcock says that the second burglary seems to have taken place between Saturday, July 30 and Monday, Aug. 1 at 8 a.m.
Adcock stated that the total cash amount stolen was $1,400 and nine checks.
“The person or persons did force entry into the building and into the safe to get that,” Adcock said.
“We’re working some possible leads on it.”
Another burglary took place at Solomon’s Grocery on Peachtree Avenue between Friday, July 29 and Monday, August 1 at 8 a.m.
Items stolen are as follows: $25 in coins, a box of Butterfingers, Snickers and Baby Ruth candy bars.
“There was forced entry into that building,” Adcock said.
“As of now, we are not tying these thefts all together. We would like for our citizens to keep a more vigilant eye out on their neighbor’s property. If they see anything suspicious, call 911 or the Luverne Police Department or report it.”
