A 31-year-old man was taken into custody after leaving the scene of a vehicle fire and later attempting to break into the press box at a high school baseball stadium.
William Zachary Sebring has been charged with burglary, according to the Greenville Police Department.
Capt. Justin Lovvorn, commander of the Criminal Investigations Division, said a hold for a mental evaluation was also placed on Sebring, who according to authorities, may suffer from posttraumatic stress disorder.
“He drove from Florida to Greenville and parked on Tiger Drive early (Wednesday) morning,” Lovvorn said. “The truck caught on fire and he walked into the woods.”
Three hours later, officers located Sebring at Fort Dale Academy’s baseball field. They say he was attempting to break into the press box and bathrooms.
According to Lovvorn, Sebring was incoherent when located by police.
“We have no idea why he stopped in Greenville,” he said.
Lovvorn said it appears the truck was intentionally set on fire, but that remains under investigation. The fire was extinguished by the Greenville Fire Department.
