Clara Mae Steele Owens

Funeral services for Sister Clara Mae Steele Owens were held on May 14 at 11a.m. from College Street Church of Christ. Bro. Bishnoo Rampersad officiated. Burial followed in Magnolia Cemetery. Hudson Funeral Services, Greenville, Alabama directed.
Sister Clara Mae Owens was born Dec. 3, 1945 to the late Dan and Sarah Steele. She married the late Charlie Owens on Oct. 20, 1968 and to this union five children were born. Two preceded her in death, Charlie, Jr. and Temika Owens.
Clara became a member of the church of Christ at an early age. She was an active member, serving as a primary teacher and singing with the Metropolitan Choir, which started in 1968. Clara remained a faithful member of College Street Church of Christ until God called her home.
Clara labored for many years; for 15 years she worked at AlliedSafety Restraint. She worked several years for the Butler County Board of Education. She labored there until her health failed.
She departed this life on May 5 at her home surrounded by her family.
She is preceded in death by three sisters; Gennette Haynes, Annie Laura Steele and Ruby Nell Rudolph.
She leaves to cherish her many memories one son, Dedric (Karen) Owens; two daughters Alethea Hawkins, Melissa Owens, both of Greenville, Ala.; a loving mother, Sarah Steele; five grandchildren, Lorenzo Smith, San Diego, Calif., Kanitra (Rodrick) McMeans, Jarquis Owens, Jamaal Owens and Jameshia Owens, all of Greenville, Ala.; seven great-grandchildren, Zachery, Lorenzo, Jamariyon, Ethan, Kyri, Emmarie, and Brooklynn; two brothers, Dan (Margaret M.) Steele and Glenn (Margaret) Steele, Norfolk, Va.; three sisters, Annie Rudolph, Greenville, Ala., Sarah (Ronnie) Simmons, Detroit, Mich., and Phyllis Feagan, Virginia Beach, Va.; one sister-in-law, Babe Ruth Carter, Greenville, Ala.; one brother-in-law, Roosevelt Gregory, Pensacola, Fla., two special friends; Bertha Hamilton and Ruby Nell Savage; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
