Brantley Bulldogs to face Blacksher today

The Bulldogs will be taking on J.U Blacksher in Blacksher today at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. They’ll play a third game if needed on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

The Brantley Bulldogs pulled off another great win over the Ragland Purple Devils, winning the series 2-1. The Bulldogs got their sixth ten-run rule game in the duration of the playoffs.

To start off the first game, the Bulldogs were up to bat. Adrian Person started off the batting order and got on base when Ragland’s pitcher walked him. Person stole second while Tommy Spivey was up to bat. Spivey bunted and got to third, but sadly Person was thrown out at third.

Jacob Free got on base but sadly the Bulldogs reached two outs before they could get their runners in. Spivey started pitching for the Bulldogs. Colby Carpenter got the first out of the inning by throwing the batter out at first. Free caught a base hit and got the second out by throwing to first base. The Purple Devils batted a player in, scoring the first points of the game. Free again threw a guy out at first.

With only one hit in the second, the Bulldogs quickly went back on defense. Nathan Renfroe caught a line drive hit, getting the first out of the inning. Renfroe went to catch a short hit, throwing the batter out at first. The final out of the inning came when Spivey struck out the batter. At top of the third inning, the Bulldogs could not get anything started and the score still remained 0-1 in favor of Ragland.

The first out came when a base hit came toward Free and he threw out the batter at first. Two batters got on base for Ragland when the Bulldogs got their second out, throwing a player out at first. A Ragland player then scored.

When the batter hit the ball down the first base line, another runner scored, but the batter was thrown out at first. The last out came when a base hit came Free’s way, and the batter was thrown out. The score was now 0-3.

Renfroe had gotten on base when it was time for the Bulldogs to bat. Sadly, Ragland got two outs when Greyson Layton bunted, which was caught then thrown to first to get Renfroe out. Mack Wise had struck out, sending the Bulldogs out to defense in the bottom of the fourth inning. Edge Branum, who was at second, caught a ground ball and threw out the batter at first.

Spivey struck out one of Ragland’s batters for the second out of the inning. Three Ragland players scored before Brantley could get their third out. Renfroe caught a fly ball to end the inning.

The top of the fifth was uneventful for the Bulldogs. A change of pitcher during the bottom of the fifth brought Parker Odom to the mound for the Bulldogs.

Odom threw out a batter at first after a bunt.Wise made an amazing throw from right field to home plate, but sadly the batter was safe. The second out came when Layton caught a fly ball. Branum caught a fly ball to get the last out of the fifth with a score of 0-7 in Ragland’s favor.

The Bulldogs got something started in the top of the sixth when Spivey hit a ball past second base. Free tried to advance Spivey; Spivey was thrown out, leaving Free to get on base. Renfroe got on base with a hit to short stop, but Free was thrown out.

Layton hit a ball to the fence in center field. Renfroe scored the first points for Brantley making the score 1-7. In the bottom of the sixth, the first out came from a bunt that was run to first base. A fly ball out to Branum was the second out of the inning. Ragland players score four runners, ending the first game with a score of 1-11.

The second game started out with the Bulldogs on defense with Free pitching for the Bulldogs. Carpenter got the first out by throwing an out at first base. Renfroe threw out a batter from short stop to get the second and third outs.

In the first offensive inning of the second game the Bulldogs really stepped up their game. Person got on base when Ragland’s pitcher walked him.

Spivey hit a double to the third base line, allowing Person to advance to third. Free hit a double over second base, bringing Person home.

Renfroe was walked, filling up the bases for the Bulldogs. Wise got a hit but caused a forced out at home. Free scored and when Wise faked a steal, Spivey was able to score the third run of the game for the Bulldogs.

Andrew Kimbro got a hit to left field to get on base. Branum was hit by the ball and walked to first, causing the bases to be loaded. Carpenter was walked, bringing Wise home. Person came back up to bat, smashing a ball to the fence in centerfield, earning him three RBIs.

Free pitched a three strikeout inning for the top of the second. Kimbro got a hit along with Scotty Hudson, who hit a single. Due to an error at center field, Carpenter got on first. Spivey hit a double to left field, scoring Kimbro making the score 17-0. At the top of the fourth, Jake Kilcrease took over pitching.

Trey Lowery caught a fly ball to right field for the first out of the inning. Renfroe got an out when a ball was hit to third. Spivey caught a fly ball to center field for the final out of the fourth. The Bulldogs subsituted many players during the bottom of the fourth. In the fifth, Edge Branum began pitching. He struck out two batters and the final out came from Spivey catching a fly ball hit to center field. One of Ragland’s players did score making the score 17-1, ending the game.

The third game started off with the Bulldogs on defense. The Ragland Purple Devils scored five runs before they could be stopped by the Bulldogs.

Person started off batting for the Bulldogs; he was hit and walked. Spivey hit fly ball to second and got on due to error. Free hit a ball to third, which got Person out. Renfroe hit a base hit to left field and scored Spivey.

Layton hit a pop fly to short stop, getting the second out of their offensive inning. The pitcher walked Wise, loading the bases for the Bulldogs. Kimbro hit a line drive down first, scoring two runners,  and also stole second.

Branum was walked, creating another bases loaded situtation. Carpenter got big hit out to the fence in center field and scored three runners, making the score 6-5. Renfroe pitched in the second inning for the Bulldogs. He struck out one player.

Person hit a ball and got a double play. Spivey hit a basehit  between third and short. Free scored Spivey with a hit to center field. Free stole home during Kimbro’s bat, making the score 8-5.

In the top of the fourth, Renfroe struck out one player while Lowery and Wise both caught pop flies. The Bulldogs didn’t have a good offensive inning but the score remained 11-5 in favor of the Bulldogs.

The Purple Devils managed to score a run before the Bulldogs could get three outs. In the fifth, Carpenter was walked and Hudson took over running bases for him. Bases were loaded after Spivey bunted to get on base.

Free got a hit to second, and was safe due to the first baseman’s foot being off the bag. He scored on Person. Renfroe hit a ball to short and scored two runners, bringing the score to 14-6.

Layton hit a ball to second and scored  one of the Bulldog’s runners, but he was called out. Wise hit a base hit getting the last RBI of the game, making the final score 16-6.

When asked how he felt about the game, Lowery said, “ I felt that after the first game against Ragland we came out more focused. We started playing the way we know how to.”

He later said, “ That’s what we’re going to have to do agianst our next opponet.”
