Softball tournament cancelled due to weather

The looming threat of storms this weekend was enough to force McKenzie’s staff to cancel the upcoming Butler County Softball Tournament.
The event, would’ve seen Greenville, McKenzie and Georgiana’s softball teams squaring off in a round-robin format Friday that determined a single-elimination tournament Saturday.
McKenzie head softball coach Matt Coghlan said that the weather has interfered with the start of McKenzie’s season a great deal, but it’s par for the course with spring sports.
“We were looking at the radar and trying to make a decision, but I really don’t think we’re going to be able to get the tournament in,” Coghlan said.
“I don’t want to start it, get one game in this afternoon and then cancel the rest of the tournament.”
Coghlan said that he and his staff were also hard at work on determining a future date to reschedule the tournament among the three schools, though as of Friday the coaches were unable to nail down a concrete date.
Coghlan added, however, that he remains confident that the three teams will be able to duke it out sometime in April, mostly likely toward the end of the month.
But a packed schedule prior to spring break prevents the teams from meeting any sooner than that.
