The Greenville City Council voted unanimously Monday to vacate a portion of Few Street.
The request to vacate a portion of the street, which is located between West Commerce Street and North Caldwell Street, was made by Joe and Faye Andress. The couple owns property on both sides of the street.
“It’s a small portion of the street between two buildings that he already owns,” Mayor Dexter McLendon said.
The portion of the street to be vacated by the city intersects with Gandy Street and extends north to where Joe and Faye Andress’ property line meets CSX Railroad’s property line.
Joe and Faye Andress will now have the right to close that portion of the street to through traffic.
“We have notified all utilities who might possibly have interest in that little area and some have called, some had questions, but no one felt the need to come to the public hearing and object,” said City Clerk Sue Arnold.
Entities with utility lines, equipment or facilities already in place on Few Street will have the right to continue to maintain, extend and enlarge their lines, equipment and facilities to the same extent as if the city had not vacated the portion of Few Street.
