Three On a String, a Birmingham-based bluegrass band, will take the stage of the Ritz Theatre on Tuesday night as part of the Greenville Area Arts Council’s 34th season.
The show will include bluegrass standards, some pop tunes from the 1970s and comedy skits.
“With over 40 years in the entertainment business Three on a String offers the perfect mix of music and humor,” said Nancy Idland, Greenville Area Arts Council executive director. “This show can be described in one word — fun.”
The band played its first show 45 years ago in Steele, Ala., when Jerry Ryan and Bobby Horton teamed up to play a concert at Horse Pens 40. The duo played seven songs, and in doing so created a band that has become a Birmingham staple.
Since that first show, Three on a String has toured the U.S. and Canada and played with the likes of the Oak Ridge Boys, Hank Williams Jr., the Statler Brothers, Bill Cosby, Red Skelton and numerous symphonies.
The performance will begin at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students and can be purchased at The Pineapple, The Medicine Shoppe and McFerrin’s Jewelry.
