The Greenville City Council on Monday night recognized Fire Chief Chad Phillips for recently completing his Bachelor of Science degree in fire administration.

Phillips, who finished with a GPA of 4.0, earned his degree from Columbia Southern University in Orange Beach, Ala.

“Chad does a great job,” said Mayor Dexter McLendon. “We’re proud of him and impressed with what he’s accomplished.”

Phillips said earning his degree isn’t something he did on his own.

“I appreciate working for the city and the opportunity to serve the fire department,” Phillips said. “I appreciate (the firefighters) putting up with me, and I have to give (my wife) Cindy a little credit. She put up with me during those long nights and long weekends.”
