The Tigers suffered a 44-0 loss to 3A Pike County last Friday.
“We found out we’ve got a lot of work to do,” said head coach Scott Rials. “But, we’re not looking back. We’re going to look forward.”
Luverne started preparing for four weeks of region play, starting with Friday’s homecoming game against Calhoun. So far, Luverne is 3-0 in the region.
“These region games are what get you to the playoffs,” Rials said.
The Tigers spent a soggy Monday watching film and working on weights, but were happy to get outdoors Tuesday. Rials said his goal was to see his team become better at execution and to see quarterback Austin Bryant make the right reach with passes.
“We’re working on all phases of the game,” he said.
The last time Luverne saw Calhoun, the Tigers walked away with a 48-6 win. Their all-time record is 6-1, but Rials said there were no guarantees.
“When you are working with 15-to-18-year-olds, you never know what’s going to happen,” he said. “They’ve had some problems this year, but they’re a good, athletic team.”
The Tigers are preparing for Calhoun the same way they have prepared for every team they have come up against this season.
“We’re not going to worry about who we play,” Rials said. “We’re really working on Luverne this week.”
