Cougars drop Eagles to 0-2 in region

Fort Dale Academy fell to 0-2 in AISA Class AAA, Region 1 with a 34-7 loss to Escambia Academy Friday night in Greenville.
The Cougars took control early, scoring just 2:06 into the contest. By the end of the first stanza, Escambia led 21-0.
The Cougars added one more score before the intermission to take a 28-0 lead into halftime.
The Eagles (1-2) scored their lone touchdown of the game with 3:23 remaining to play on a run by senior Austin Vickery. Senior kicker Jake Gillem added the extra point.
Sophomore quarterback Luke Taylor led the Eagles’ ground attack with 93 yards on 19 carries.
Junior Clay Mansmann rushed eight times for 63 yards and junior Andrew Salter carried the ball three times for 33 yards before leaving the game with an injury.
Vickery had two receptions for 20 yards.
Mansmann led the charge for Fort Dale on defense with 11 stops.
Senior linebacker Caison Elliott and senior defensive lineman Evan Thomas each had a fumble recovery in the loss.
Fort Dale will look to bounce back next Friday when it plays host to Wilcox Academy.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
