Albert Edwards Wynne III

Albert Edwards Wynne III, 78, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2015. Wayne was born on Aug. 28, 1937 in Savannah, Ga., to parents Albert Edwards Wynne Jr. and Evelyne Knight Wynne. He attended Shades Valley High School and the University of Alabama, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Albert was a metallurgical engineer and he served as a lieutenant in the United States Army Corps of Engineers. Wynne was an involved member of the Birmingham Rotary Club and he served on the board of the Boy Scouts of America and the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council. Wynne was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Katie Lane Sherling Wynne, and his son, Albert Edwards Wynne IV. Albert is survived by his sister, Dorothy “Peachy” Wynne Trigg (Jack);his daughters, Katie Wynne Kirkland (Peter) and Evelyne Wynne DeLong (Billy); and his grandchildren, Lamar and Ruben DeLong, and Katie Lane, Albert, and Ruth Evelyne Kirkland. Wynne is also survived by many other devoted friends and family members. During his life, Wynne enjoyed fishing and Alabama football. He was also a faithful member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Mountain Brook, Ala.

There was a memorial service held in his honor on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 10 a.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church (3736 Montrose Road, Birmingham, AL 35213-3800) with a reception that followed St. Luke’s. Rev. Richmond Webster, rector, and Rev. Rebecca S. DeBow, associate rector, officiated. The graveside service and burial was held on Monday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. at Magnolia Cemetery in Greenville, Ala. There was a visitation beforehand at 12:30 p.m. at Dunklin and Daniels Funeral Home (812 W Commerce St, Greenville, AL 36037).
