Bennie Lewis was inducted into the Xi chapter of Kappa Delta Pi at the University of Alabama on July 23.
In 1909, University of Illinois Professor of Education Dr. William Chandler Bagley and a group of four of his students, including Truman Lee Kelley and Thomas E. Musselman, founded the Illinois Education Club. Two years later, that club would become Kappa Delta Pi. The aim of the honor society is to foster excellence in education and promote fellowship among those dedicated to teaching.
Individuals are invited to join based on their high academic achievement, worthy ideals and evidence of leadership attributes, according to a press release from the organization.
Internationally, Kappa Delta Pi has more than 400 chapters and 57,000 members.
Lewis is the son of Mary Lewis.
