Georgiana’s annual summer basketball camp is equal parts fun and fundamentals, but every competition must have its winner.
Georgiana head basketball coach Kirk Norris crowned champions in three different age groups Wednesday for various competitions, including the free throw, hot shot, gotcha and camper of the week division.
Norris said that the camp’s goal is to give the area’s kids a healthy activity to enjoy among friends during the summer, but it’s also about sowing seeds for the future of Georgiana’s basketball program.
“It’s only three days, but I think it gives them a foundation where they learn something they can take and use, and hopefully they remember what they’re supposed to do,” Norris said.
Campers spent an hour or more during each morning of the three-day camp rotating among various stations focused on shooting, passing, dribbling and defense.
The campers then applied those skills in a variety of competitions.
More than 40 campers turned out for this year’s session, and they were divided into the NBA (oldest), Big 12 and SEC (youngest) age groups.
