UnaVay Carpenter, 94, of Panama City, Fla., passed away Saturday May 16. Mrs. Carpenter was born in Butler County, Ala., and lived in Bay County since 1939. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Southport, and was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. Mrs. Carpenter was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James L. Carpenter; two sons, Larry Lamar Carpenter and William Earl Carpenter; a daughter, Elgie Lee “Boots” Carpenter; her parents; seven brothers and a sister.
Survivors include her daughters, Judy C. Kannady (Toni Ruiz) of Houston, Texas, and Ann Jones (Rayford) of Panama City; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 21, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Gurganus officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until service time at 11. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Carpenter’s name may be made to Emerald Coast Hospice, 421 W. Oak Avenue, Panama City, FL 32401.
