Authorities are warning Butler County residents of a hospital billing scam that is circulating the area.
According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, scammers are calling residents in the area and claiming to be with the billing department at L.V. Stabler Memorial Hospital.
The scammers tell residents that they are calling in regard to a portion of a bill that was unpaid by the patient’s insurance company. The caller then asks that the unpaid portion be paid with a credit or debit card.
Officials with L.V. Stabler Memorial Hospital have confirmed that this in fact a scam, and that the calls are not being made by the hospital.
A patient that receives a call regarding payment to the hospital, and believes he or she may have an unpaid bill, should hang up and contact L.V. Stabler Memorial Hospital at (334) 382-2671. The patient should not give the caller any credit card or debit card information over the phone.
