City council appoints 2 to library board

Greenville’s City Council appointed two new members to the Greenville-Butler County Public Library Board at its meeting on Monday night.
Claire Corley and Stephanie Grayson will fill vacant spots and serve four-year terms.
The board, incorporated in 1985, is comprised of seven members. Four are city appointees and three are county appointees. A member of the city council serves as the board’s council liaison.
The library board is comprised of Corley, Grayson, Cleve Poole, Margaret Phillips, Dr. Jean Thompson, Vivian McGowin (Chairman) and Pat Compton.
The library board oversees the daily operations of the board and ensures its future is financially, administratively and educationally sound as a public board serving the citizens of Greenville, Butler County and surrounding counties as well.
In other business, the council:
• approved expenditures for $1,572.79 for Sunbelt Tire for annual certification, maintenance and flow test for fire department’s SCBAs; for $3,357.90 for A.D. Starr for a baseball field striping machine, dryline marker, paint, base sets, baseballs and softballs; for $3,825 for Kent Tanner for labor to remove old and install new fencing at Holly Field; for $2,945 for Marvin’s for fencing at Holly Field; and for $10,584 for Meyercord Revenue, Inc. for cigarette stamps.
Greenville Mayor Dexter McLendon reminded all to come and welcome the new elected offices for Greenville and Butler County at a reception for Rep. Chris Sells and Sen. Hank Sanders, to be held at the Wendell Mitchell Conference Center from 5-6:30 p.m. tomorrow.
Additionally, the Chamber of Commerce annual banquet will be held Thurs., Feb. 19, at 6:30 p.m.
The next city council meeting will be held Feb. 23, at 5:30 p.m.
