Highland Home’s basketball season ended with a 78-50 loss against top seed Calhoun Wednesday.
Highland Home’s Tay Fuller came alive in the third quarter, scoring 14 points, including a couple of three-pointers. He led in scoring with a total of 17 points for the night.
But, it was not enough to make up for the 15-point deficit the team was in at the half.
Head coach Morgan Cook said she was proud of her team.
“We ended up with eight boys (I call them men) to finish the season. They held on through all the adversity we’ve been through,” she said. “That says something about them. They stepped up and held on when they could’ve easily quit.”
The team lost two head coaches this season. Morgan took over more than halfway through the season.
“If (assistant coach Jacqueline) Tate and I had had them since the beginning, this would’ve been a very different year,” she said.
The Lady Squadron lost to Luverne 47-18.
“They didn’t do as well as I expected of them,” said head coach Jacqueline Tate.
Four players managed to score on the Tigers. Shayla Allen was at the top of the list with 10 points. Tristyn Pierce had the first quarter’s only baskets. Her total for the night was four points. Allera June added three points to the total and Tamiya Bell one point.
The game was the last high school game for half of the team. Highland Home will say goodbye to seven seniors, three of them starters.
Alexus Redmon led the Tigers with 13 points. Nyjah Thomas had 10 points.
The Luverne boys lost Wednesday’s area game against Central by a score of 62-50.
