Leaks an issue at water authority meeting

Fixing water leaks was one of the topics of discussion Monday morning at Butler County Water Authority’s monthly meeting.
Wesley Bass, with Artesian Utilities, gave a thorough report on the water usage for 2014 and talked about a leak that was found after pipes thawed out when a hard freeze swept through the area earlier this month.
Bass requested that he could shop for prices to fix the leak, to which the authority approved the request to find the lowest price to fix the leak.
On another matter, Bass was given approval to write a letter requesting that work be done — under warranty — to fix another leak on a shallow pipe at a residence on Highway 10.
Additionally, the water authority approved paying Artesian for the labor for installing water meters; and approved the purchase of materials for 100 full assemblies so that Artesian can have a good portion ready when the meters are delivered, which will be in the next 7-8 weeks after grand money from the USDA is received, Bass said.
In other business, the water authority:
• approved write offs;
• approved payment of the Artesian Utilities Operations Bill and R&M;
• approved the December 2014 financial report; and,
• tabled the election of board officers until the next meeting, which will be held on Mon., Feb. 23, at 9:30 a.m.
