The weekend was business as usual for Georgiana’s basketball team as the Panthers defended their home turf against the Highland Home Flying Squadron Saturday night with a decisive 86-40 victory.
The game also doubled as Senior Night for the Panthers, and Georgiana’s seniors took it as an opportunity to leave an indelible mark on their alma mater with great performances.
Highland Home’s defense was powerless to slow down, let alone stop, a deep Georgiana offense with multiple tools.
Five different Panthers reached double-digits to take a commanding lead from the very outset.
Richard Boggan dominated the paint as usual, but he received some help on rebounding duties from senior forward Travales Smith, who contributed 12 rebounds on the night.
Senior Jeremy Sims and his towering 6-foot-6-inch frame led the way with 15 points, as well as Jay Williams, who added 15 points of his own to the total.
Jacquez Payton and Demarcus Rich each added 13 points.
Lastly, Boggan posted yet another double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Andrew Brown led Highland Home with 10 points.
The Panthers (20-2) hosted Red Level Tuesday, though results were unavailable at press time.
Lady Panthers shoot down Flying Squadron
The Lady Panthers saw similar success Saturday night against Highland Home as Georgiana shot down the Flying Squadron, 46-11.
Tyanna Perkins led all Panthers with 18 points, but two other Lady Panthers reached double digits on the evening.
Miya Riley chipped in with 13 points and Zandreca Johnson dominated the boards as well with 11 points and 14 rebounds.
Shayla Allen led Highland Home with 19 points.
With the win, the Lady Panthers improve to 11-8 on the season.
