BRANTLEY – Responders discovered a wounded driver at a wreck on Club Pond Road, but the man’s most serious wound had nothing to do with the wreck.

“When we responded to the traffic accident he was involved in, we found out that he had been shot,” said Michael Johnson, chief investigator with the Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Office.

The man’s whereabouts prior to Sunday’s wreck are unknown. Neither the bullet nor the weapon has been recovered.

The incident is still under investigation, pending an interview with the victim.

“He’s still in ICU,” Johnson said.

The man, whose name has not been released, was shot through the shoulder. The path of the bullet was just above the man’s heart.

“The good lord was looking out for him,” Johnson said.
