One of the Camellia city’s holiday traditions will continue next week as the Ritz Theatre presents Christmas at the Ritz on Thursday night.
The performance, which is put on by the Ritz Players, will show a complete and huge production with artificial snow and a stellar backdrop, director of production manager Nancy Idland said.
“The cast is so very excited to bring a wonderful production to the stage,” Idland said. “They have worked very hard memorizing lyrics and have prepared 23 songs for this show.”
Idland said the cast numbers in the neighborhood of 54 students from fourth grade to senior adults. Rehearsals began months in advance of the show.
“The youngest of our cast are so happy to get the opportunity to try on costumes and be a part of the Ritz,” she said. “The older cast members give so much more than just singing. They work on sets, create props and do all that it takes to get a great show together.”
Christmas at the Ritz, which is also sponsored by the Greenville Area Arts Council, features selected Christmas songs.
Performances will be held on Thurs., Dec. 11, at 7 p.m., and Dec. 14, at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the Pineapple, the Medicine Shoppe and McFerrin’s Jewelry.
The Ritz Players originated eight years ago and the Christmas show began as a holiday variety show, Idland said.
“It is one holiday tradition that I hope can continue for many years,” she said.
