Alabama State Troopers had their eyes on Wednesday night as they arrested a Maryland man for kidnapping.

Maurice Rentz Johnson of Clinton, Maryland, was detained by state troopers after an Amber Alert was issued from Mississippi.

According to reports, Johnson took a 6-year-old boy from a restaurant Wednesday night, where he was dining with his grandmother.

Johnson was stopped by troopers at around 8:30 p.m. near exit 114 on I-65 in Butler County.

Pascagoula Police Capt. Shannon Massey told The Mississippi Press that the child was taken from Raisin’ Cane’s restaurant on U.S. 90, while his grandmother’s back was turned.

Johnson took the child in a 2004 Acura and head toward Alabama, where he was captured.

Massey said the child is safe and in the custody of the grandmother.

Since the arrest, Johnson has been transported back to Mississippi.
