A Clinton, Maryland man is behind bars in Butler County after being arrested for allegedly kidnapping a 6-year-old child on Wednesday night.

According to news reports, Maurice Rentz Johnson took the child from a restaurant yesterday evening at around 6. The child was reportedly dining with his grandmother, who had her back turned when the kidnapping took place.

Johnson was stopped by Alabama State Troopers at 8:30 p.m. near exit 114 on Interstate 65 in Butler County, Pascagoula Police Captain Shannon Massey told WAKA.

Massey said the child is safe.
