Greenville Elementary School principal Bryant Marlow has been hired as the principal at Georgiana School.
The hire was announced at Tuesday night’s Butler County Board of Education meeting.
Marlow replaces Ward Thigpen, who resigned to accept a position with the Alabama Department of Education.
“I’m excited about the opportunity,” Marlow said. “I’m ready to get down there and connect with the community. I want to be involved in the community.”
Marlow credited Thigpen with leaving Georgiana School, which serves students in kindergarten through 12th grade, in excellent shape.
“Mr. Thigpen did a great job,” Marlow said. “He got an opportunity to go to work at the state department of education and I wish him well. I think the school is in excellent shape and I’m excited to have the chance to be a part of the school and the community. I think Georgiana is a great place to be.”
Marlow, who has served as the principal at Greenville Elementary School for two full years, says he plans to host a meet and greet for the Georgiana community within the next few weeks.
“I want meet with the community and get their feedback,” he said. “I want the community to feel like the school belongs to them. I want to hear their expectations for the school and to give them a chance to voice any concerns. Georgiana has a great community and I want the community to be a part of the school.”
