Fort Dale Academy seniors Chip Taylor and Mary Sanford Perdue were named to the Alabama Sportswriters Association all-state basketball team on Sunday.
Taylor earned first-team honors, while Perdue was an honorable mention selection.
Taylor said the pair’s selection speaks highly of Fort Dale’s basketball program.
“It says a lot about our school to have two players make the all-state team, and to have both our boys and girls teams make the Elite Eight and compete in the state playoffs,” he said. “This past season was the most fun I’ve ever had playing basketball with my teammates and being recognized like this is definitely an honor.”
Taylor averaged 23.3 point per game this season to lead Fort Dale’s scoring attack. He also averaged 8.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.9 steals per game.
Perdue, who led the Lady Eagles in scoring with 10.8 points per game, said she “thrilled and excited” to learn she had been chosen for the team.
“It’s an honor that I’m very proud of and appreciative of,” she said. “I feel that our team had a good season. We were region champions and both the boys and girls teams made it to the Elite Eight. All the girls worked very hard this season to play the best that they could and I believe that showed throughout the season. I wouldn’t have wanted to play on any other team. These girls made my senior year so fun and one I will never forget.”
Perdue also averaged 1 assist, 3 steals and 3.9 rebounds per game.
