The debate over which of Butler County’s school has the best baseball and softball team will be answered this week.
The third annual Butler County School System Baseball and Softball Tournament will be held Friday and Saturday at Georgiana School.
“This is something that’s got to the point where we really look forward to it every year,” Georgiana head softball coach Ezell Powell said. “All three schools come together and compete, and it’s a lot of a fun. It’s not something we do in football and not a whole lot in basketball, so the kids look forward to getting out and competing and playing against the other schools in the county.”
The softball tournament will be played in a round robin format on Friday. The team that finishes as the No. 1 seed will get a bye in the first round of Saturday’s single elimination tournament.
Friday’s action will begin at 3:30 p.m. with McKenzie School facing off with Greenville High School.
Georgiana School and Greenville will square off at 5 p.m., and Georgiana and McKenzie will close out the first day of the tournament at 6:30 p.m.
Saturday’s action will begin at 10 a.m. The championship game will be played at noon.
