Butler County Schools will remain closed Friday.
School officials made the decision not to resume classes due to potentially hazardous road conditions. A weather advisory from the National Weather Service predicts that snow and ice that has melted throughout the day on Thursday will freeze overnight creating icy roadways.
Butler County Engineer Dennis McCall said that while the roads are beginning to clear, there are still trouble spots.
“Parts of the roads that are shaded and bridges still have ice on them,” McCall said. “On some of the bridges the ice has started to melt, and it’s kind of a slushy mix. We’re trying to help speed that up and get it off the bridges but what is left will likely refreeze.”
McCall estimates that eight to 10 bridges could be iced over Friday morning.
County officials have elected to keep all county roads closed to all nonessential traffic until 10 a.m. Friday.
Butler County Schools will reopen Monday.
Fort Dale Academy officials said on Wednesday via the school’s Facebook page that the school will resume classes Friday morning.
