The National Weather Service has issued a civil emergency for Crenshaw County.
“A mixture of freezing rain, sleet and snow is accumulating across the area,” the NWS statement said. “Several roadways are becoming slick and extremely hazardous, especially bridges and overpasses. Travel across these counties should be limited to emergency travel only for your safety.”
NWS says that wintry precipitation will continue through the afternoon and into the evening hours.
At an 11:30 a.m., EMA update Jeff Garmin of the NWS, said the sleet and snow would last until around 6 p.m., before a complete switchover to snow.
It is anticipated the snow will last at least overnight, with the greatest potential for accumulation until 9 p.m.
It is anticipated that more than three inches of snow could fall.
