Brantley advances to quarterfinals

Brantley’s defense held St. Luke’s to a field goal during the second round of the AHSAA playoffs Friday night.
Wesley Person Jr. put the Dawgs on the board first with 5:33 left in the first quarter.
The Wildcats stopped Brantley’s attempt at a two-point conversion just shy of the goal line, putting the Dawgs up 6-0 at the end of the first.
Andrew Parker ran the ball for Brantley’s second TD of the night with 10:26 left in the second quarter.
Person hit DJ Salter for the two-point conversion, putting the home team up 14-0.
Brandon Walker ran hard for the Brantley, putting the Bulldogs up 20-0.
St. Luke’s got on the board with 1:03 left in the second with a field goal, making the score 20-3 at the half.
Person scored big for the Bulldogs with 11:32 left in the third quarter, but the extra point attempt was no good, putting BHS up 26-3.
St. Luke’s stopped Brantley’s next run when they intercepted a Brantley pass in the end zone with 7:59 left in the third.
Salter ran in the ball with 3 minutes left in the third and the PAT was good, putting Brantley up 33-3.
Parker scored the Dawgs’ last TD with 11:37 left in the fourth, and the PAT was good, making the final 40-3.
Brantley head coach Ashley Kilcrease said he felt his team ran the ball well.
Person rushed for 101 yards and threw the ball for 83.
Brandon had 9 carries for 132 yards.
Salter had two rushes for 52 yards.
“He kind of gets us going on the defense,” Kilcrease said. “That’s when we get the big hits.”
Brantley will travel to play Loachapoka in the quarterfinals next week.
