A janitor at Hayneville Middle School has been arrested for allegedly enticing a child and sexual abuse, second degree, Hayneville Police Chief Kelvin Mitchell said Monday.
According to Mitchell, Lee Andrew Saffold, 46, of Hayneville was arrested at HMS on Oct. 24 for an alleged incident that occurred at the school on Sept. 30, based on a complaint to the Department of Human Resources.
“Upon investigation, he was arrested on those two charges,” Mitchell said. “We’re in the early stages of an investigation. We are going to figure out if these allegations are founded and if they are, we’re going to let the judicial system take its course.”
Lowndes County School Superintendent Dr. Daniel Boyd said Safford was not on leave from his job with the school, but that he is not working and is not being paid by the school district.
“We’re going to wait for the Hayneville Police Department do to their investigation,” Boyd said.
Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office officials said Saffold remains in custody at the John Hulett Detention Facility on an $11,000 bond.
