Two Crenshaw Countians will join 63 members of the 1103rd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion in a deployment to Afghanistan — Sgt. First Class Ricky Beck and Sgt. First Class Michael Sport.

The battalion is based out of Eufaula.

Beck is a Brantley High School graduate and is a technician with the Alabama National Guard, and has served in the military for 32 years.

Sport graduated from Crenshaw Christian Academy and teaches at Highland Home and has served in the military for 25 years.

The duo is currently assigned to the support operations section of the 1103rd.

The unit’s mission in Afghanistan will be to conduct retrograde operations for base closures for Operation Enduring Freedom.

A deployment ceremony will be held at Lakepoint Resort & Conference Center in Eufaula on Sept. 7, at 11 a.m.
