The Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) has recognized Georgiana School for outstanding sportsmanship during the 2012-13 season.
The award is given to schools whose athletic programs complete the 2012-13 sports season without incurring either a fine or an ejection.
Georgiana athletic director Kirk Norris said that this is a great accomplishment for the entire athletic program.
“It’s a testament to our players and coaches and the way they conduct themselves,” Norris said. “It’s something that our young men and women are very proud to achieve, and it shows how much pride they have in their school and athletic program.”
Georgiana is one of only 124 schools (out of 401 high schools and 287 junior high schools) to receive the honor.
Georgiana will be recognized at the Sportsmanship Luncheon in Montgomery on Friday, July 19 at the conclusion of All-Stars Sports Week.
According to Norris, sportsmanship isn’t about wins and losses, but character and integrity.
“It’s how you act when no one is looking,” Norris said. “These things are important not only to our kids now, but the characteristics they are learning and developing will help them in life.”
