Comer Blackmon

Mr. Comer Blackmon, 90, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 28.  He was a man of great character and ethics with a profound love for God, his family, the church, especially Southside Baptist  Church and his fellow man.

Comer served in the U.S. Navy before returning to Greenville to become an automobile mechanic.  He started his own business in 1950 and enjoyed 35 years of success where he later formed a partnership with his sons, Michael and Larry.  After closing his business, he continued working for his sons at Norman-Blackmon Motor Company until his retirement at age 80. Comer loved life and gave thanks to God each day for the beautiful day he had created.  After his retirement, he faithfully attended the Greenville Nutrition Center where he enjoyed the fellowship of his friends and playing Skipbo. Comer is survived by his wife, Velma Smith Blackmon and three children Mike Blackmon (Debbie), Larry Blackmon (Martha Matthews), Barbara Conley (Nenion), three grandchildren, Alison Edwards (Jason), Allen Blackmon (Veronica) and Brian Blackmon (Amy), five great grandchildren, Jackson Edwards, Grayson Edwards, Madison Edwards, Alexis Blackmon and Mitch Blackmon and many special nieces and nephews. There will be a family visitation on Friday, March 1, from 4 – 5:30 p.m.  A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2013 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. with the services at 11 a.m. all taking place at Southside Baptist Church. The burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be sent to Southside Baptist Church, 211 King Street, Greenville AL 36037.
