Luverne council sets Trick or Treat times, learns of fire engine problems

The Luverne city council set the date for trick or treating in town and heard an update about problems with the city’s new fire truck at Monday’s meeting.
The council voted to hold trick or treating in Luverne on Tuesday, Oct. 30 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Assistant fire chief W.A. Neal also talked about problems with the city’s new fire truck, which was delivered in early September.
The truck had previously been sent in for maintenance, but Neal said it has continued to have problems.
“I think the problem is in the drive train,” he said. “It shakes sometimes when you get above 40 or 50 miles per hour, and it’s broken a couple of bolts from the shaking.”
Neal said the truck was hauled by wrecker to Bradenton, Fla. for repairs.
“There’s the possibility that we won’t get that truck back,” Neal said. “We’ve asked them to build us another one with the same specifications.”
Neal also said that the fire engine is under a two-year warranty.
The truck was a new 2012 custom model built by the Pierce company, and came at a cost of $316,074.
The cost was funded by a USDA rural development loan.
