The Luverne Tigers upset the defending state champion Elba Tigers 26-21 Friday night in Elba.
“It was just a great high school football game,” said head coach Les Sanders.
Luverne trailed 13-12 after the first quarter, which was highlighted by running back Jamarcus June breaking a run of over 70 yards for the Tigers.
Luverne held Elba close, trailing 21-18 at halftime, and shut Elba out in the second half to claim the win.
“It was unbelievable,” Sanders said. “Everyone wanted to talk about the region, but I just wanted us to go out, play hard and have fun.”
The Tigers overcame injuries and depth problems during the game.
“There were times that several of our players were cramping, but we gutted it out,” Sanders said. “We played hard.”
More information about the game will be posted as it becomes available.
