More than a musical performance will be stepping into the light at First Baptist Church of Georgiana.
Pastor Allen Stephenson said The Hendersons bring a wonderful outreach ministry to cater to the entirety of Butler County.
The group from Milton, Fla., is no stranger to Georgiana and said visiting the area is always a special treat.
“My wife and I are retired, but we travel on weekends and sing music ministry,” lead singer Sonny Henderson said.
“A lot of times we get invited to different places, but that’s one of our favorite places up there.”
For 24 years, the group has been well known for its traditional southern gospel music, but the group has also become known for spreading a message while performing.
“I think it does have to do with more than just singing,” Stephenson said.
“There are a lot of talented people, but not everyone who has talent is a good minister as well.
“Sonny and his daughter do wonderful ministry as they sing. There’s more behind their singing than just the music.”
The group originally started with Henderson and his two sisters but later transformed into Henderson, his wife Marie and their two daughters, Lydia and Linda.
In 2003, Linda left the group to pursue other interests.
“They have fans throughout the county and there will be people from all parts of the county who will come who are familiar with their ministry,” Stephenson said.
“They have a wonderful outreach ministry, and we have been really touched by their ministry in their church.”
The Hendersons will perform Aug. 26 at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Georgiana. Admission is free but a love offering will be taken.
