Annette Merritt has announced her intent to seek election for the McKenzie City Council.

Merritt, who is seeking the District 1 seat, will be running for the first time.

“(I want) to work with the mayor and try to get some business in town and to make the town prosper,” Merritt said. “I’ve worked on the water board for the last couple of years, and I just think I can be helpful if I was elected on the council.”

If Merritt is elected, she hopes to bring more business into town as well as help the youth in her community.

“I would like to get something for the kids to do especially during the summer,” she said.

The municipal election will be held Aug. 28.
