The Georgiana City Council approved approximately 78 acres for rezoning at its monthly meeting on Tuesday.

The land will be rezoned from residential to commercial.

Mayor Mike Middleton said the hope is to bring new businesses out to the four-lane road near Salter Street going south.

“We’ve had some to talk about it,” Middleton said. “Hopefully we’re going to have some new businesses out there.”

Middleton said it will take some time to figure out what businesses will be moving into the area.

“Until they come in and get started, I won’t know for sure,” Middleton said.
