An Arizona man gave new meaning to snatch-and-grab robbery on Monday.
Gilbert Blair Abernathy of Scottsdale, Ariz., was arrested for theft of property first degree after snatching a diamond ring from a salesperson at Walmart and then fleeing the store.
Abernathy was apprehended in an adjacent shopping center several hundred yards from the entrance to Walmart.
“He asked about the ring and when the lady at the counter showed it to him, he snatched it and took off,” Greenville Police Department Lt. Justin Lovvorn said. “We responded to the call and were able to cut him off in the shopping center adjacent to Walmart near Yamis.”
Abernathy was then transported to the Butler County Correctional Facility where he was booked in at 9:51 a.m.
